This Saturday, we’ll witness another unique event—an MLB game on a NASCAR racetrack at Tennessee’s Bristol Motor Speedway, where a record crowd is anticipated.
As we gear up to see home runs soar over the high banks, let’s revisit some of the other fascinating venues where fans have gathered to enjoy the games.
MLB at Field of Dreams – Yankees vs. White Sox, Aug. 12, 2021
In a nod to the beloved 1989 film “Field of Dreams,” players from the White Sox and Yankees walked onto a bespoke baseball field in Dyersville, Iowa, dressed in retro uniforms. Their entrance through the corn stalks was reminiscent of one of the film’s most iconic scenes. Actor Kevin Costner, who starred in the movie, added to the atmosphere by participating in the pregame ceremony. The stadium was specially built next to the field used in the film, ensuring it blended perfectly with the serene landscape.
Highlighting this extraordinary event was Tim Anderson’s walk-off homer that sailed into the cornfields, securing the win for the White Sox. Fans and players created lasting memories reminiscent of James Earl Jones’ character, Terrance Mann, from the movie. Anderson reflected, “We gave them a show. Being able to walk it off is definitely one of my best moments of my career for sure.” Yankees manager Aaron Boone joined in, stating, “That was as special and breathtaking a setting for a baseball game as I’ve ever been part of.”
Battle at Bristol — Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech, Sept. 10, 2016
A monumental 156,990 fans filled Bristol Motor Speedway to witness a college football clash between Tennessee and Virginia Tech—a game that transformed the NASCAR racetrack into a football field. This event set the record for the largest crowd ever for a college football game, highlighting the stadium’s unique geographical position near the Virginia-Tennessee state line. Tennessee coach Butch Jones described the experience, saying, “This is truly a special evening that we’ll remember for a lifetime. asiansexpinay”

In an unprecedented event, college basketball hit the open seas with the “Carrier Classic,” where the Tar Heels faced the Spartans aboard the USS Carl Vinson, an active aircraft carrier in San Diego on Veterans Day. Players had to adapt to the unique conditions of wind and sunlight on the ship’s flight deck, resulting in a memorable game attended by 8,111 fans, including active military personnel and President Barack Obama.
Reflecting on the atmosphere, UNC player Harrison Barnes said, “I had to remind myself, ‘OK, this is a game. I have to focus.’ It was hard.”
WNBA’s Liberty Outdoor Classic at Arthur Ashe Stadium – July 19, 2008
The Liberty hosted a WNBA game at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, home of the US Open, in 2008. The stadium’s significance was amplified by its name, honoring tennis legend Billie Jean King. The game drew a then-record crowd of 19,000 fans, despite some challenges from swirling winds. King noted, “It’s the perfect arena… Basketball was my first love, so for me, it’s very appropriate that the WNBA is playing the game at the center.”
NBA Outdoors at Indian Wells – Phoenix Suns, 2008–2010
The Phoenix Suns brought basketball to the desert during a series of preseason games at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California. The first edition in 2008 saw players battling the cool desert night temperatures and strong winds affecting gameplay.
